Short item description

The artistic expression of Petr Písařík was formed at the turn of the eighties and nineties, when he was a member of the art group Pondělí (Monday), which brought together young Academy students who shared an interest in defining themselves against the contemporary art scene. Their approach to postmodern creation did not exclude conceptual procedures and was characterized by a tendency toward humor, irony, and the social aspect of art.

Petr Písařík’s painting work contains a number of eclectic elements, combining various techniques, stencils, and sprays, with the interpenetration of painting, sculpture, installation, and object, and the use of unconventional techniques and non-artistic materials. The resulting works are often a combination of several layers of pictorial realities, graphic elements, painterly and non-painterly interventions, abstracted, and concrete scenes, which create a unique collage of organically formed work.

Petr Písařík studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU) from 1987–1994 under Stanislav Kolíbal, Milan Knížák, and Aleš Veselý. He was one of the founders of the art group Pondělí. He exhibits regularly, and his work is part of significant institutional and private collections. In the last ten years, several large monographic exhibitions of Písařík’s work have taken place, for example at the Rudolfinum Gallery (2018) and Villa Pellé (2020) in Prague.
