PD Petr Veselý 89 in pencil, on the reverse label, signed bottom right Petr VeselýThe concept of place and places started to appear in my work probably from the beginning 1980s and had several positions of meaning. Probably first with the awareness of of a place as a kind of moment of stopping, of becoming aware a situation in the landscape and also a place of the figure" or a place defined character (Behind the Pillar, Place/Bathing...), then with the location of the place through a fragment (a thing, a landscape...). Soon I began to I became aware of the concept of place in terms of its actual constitution in space (in the environment, in the middle!). Firstly, through an object (a sculpture), defining the place and space around it, usually by its very nature, on the other hand, in relation to the objecthood of the (hanging) image, whose importance for my further work became increasingly important. This fact, and in turn the experience of creating my own objects (Place/Pole, Corner, Vault, Threshold, Two Places/Linking...), became connected with the actual from the beginning of the 80s works on paper, not only drawings, but also perforated (carved) papers, often with motifs of the human figure or some "situation of a thing". Petr Veselý, October 3, 2021 The painting entitled Wounds of Place (1988-1989) represents an early example of the work of of the Brno painter Petr Veselý, the starting point of which the artist in his in his subsequent work. Characteristic for of this period is the use of grey and brown valers, seemingly dirty uncoloured colours, through which he captured the contours and the laboriously sought shapes of landscapes, objects and human figures with an existential charge. The fragmentarily outlined scenes contain an intrinsically spiritual content that typical of Veselý's work, are revealed through the most ordinary objects; they are connected to their material and physical essence. Search, uncovering and depicting the unrevealed and immaterial is part of Veselé's lifelong theme of the artist. So is his interest in painting itself, in its own means, processes and abilities to create and experience reality.
