acrylic on canvas, 200 × 150 cm, signed on the reverse 2012 Pirate SkreplVladimír Skrepl is one of the most prominent representatives of the contemporary Czech painting scene. He transformed the inspiration of postmodern art and expressive painting in the 1980s into a distinctive statement, mixing influences from punk subculture, spray painting and the underground music scene. The pastoral and dense painting bursts onto the canvas with unbridled imagination, combining random motifs, scenes, symbols and slogans into a dynamic whole.
Vladimír Skrepl (born 1955), graduated from the Department of Art History and Ethnography at Masaryk University in Brno in 1976-81. He is the recipient of the Jiří Kovanda Prize (2007) and the Michal Ranný Prize (2009). Since 1994 he has been the head of the Painting II studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Provenance.
The sale of this work will contribute to the reconstruction of the building in Prague that serves as the Foundation's research and exhibition centre.
