SOBOTKA 1993For the very beginnings of the author's work, at the time when, in the early 1980s he began to appear more consistently on the Brno art scene, was characteristic of The motif of the automobile as a distinctive element of modern life was characteristic. Jiří Sobotka sees this proud symbol of civilizational progress and standard of living through an absurd contortion of meaning. The automobile, which should be synonymous with freedom of movement, deprives it of its most important attribute - the wheel. In a way, the expressive expression of Sobotka's cars reverberates ironic and mercilessly sarcastic expression of the so-called Czech grotesque.
