František Matoušek is a painter with a unique view of the world, who at the same time chooses unusual technical procedures. The use of new and used denim is typical for him. The paintings created by tearing fabrics and pulling out threads usually appear very fragile and delicate. His important themes include pop stars and actors from the period of normalization, which he depicts with an almost ironic exaggeration. Another essential theme for him has become portraits of family members, in which he often uses old photographs, thus linking the present with the past. He also devotes himself to landscapes, in which he often uses worn denim, so that time and the changes associated with it are projected into them in this way. At other times, he paints on a textile base with expressive acrylic paints and creates strongly expressive paintings. He is one of our most unique contemporary artists, not only for his painting technique, but also for his sensitive perception of our environment.
