Short item description
printed gold mark, Czechoslovakia, design by Jaroslav Ježek in 1957, type Elka, porcelain, white ground with black decoration, 6 pcs: teapot with lid (height 23 cm), sugar bowl, 4 cups with saucersTogether Lit: Chládek J., Porcelain around us. Prague 1991, p. 44, Catalogue, ceramics, drawing, painting. Karlovy Vary 1998. Jaroslav Ježek, the most important Czech designer of figurative and utilitarian porcelain in the 1960s, became most famous for his numerous designs of Brussels-style animals, which set the tone in most Czech households, and the Elka mocha service, designed specifically for the World Expo '58 in Brussels. He also won a Gold Medal for it. This success apparently caused the Ex set to be approved for production in 1959, which was produced in limited numbers and served as a luxury gift rather than a utilitarian drinks set.
