Jakub Špaňhel studied from 1995–2002 in the studios of Jiří David and Milan Knížák at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU). During his studies, from 1995–2000, he was a member of the group Luxus, an association of classmates (including David Adamec, František Matoušek, Michal Novotný) who shared an interest in a spontaneous and accessible painterly form, often involving collaboration between two artists, mutually reacting to each other. Since 1995, he has exhibited regularly in group and solo exhibitions and is represented in many institutional and private collections.
