Short item description

Professionally restored under the supervision of the artist.

The series of sculptures by Lukáš Rittstein titled Les (Forest) is inspired by the artist's long-term stays in the jungle of Papua New Guinea, where he became intensely aware of the disappearance of the wilderness.

These sculptures by Lukáš Rittstein are loosely inspired by the phenomenon of globalization, ecological issues, and civilizational problems. They are always formed by a rounded, soft-looking shape clinging to horizontal artificial trunks "just as the soul clings to the axis of its existence" (Rittstein). Each of the sculptures has its own specific story, but their meaning is generally symbolic: it is about the search for deeper grounding for man in contemporary society. This experience was born for Rittstein among the indigenous tribes, where he so intensely experienced the dizzying disappearance of the original connection between man and the natural world.
In the sculpture titled Osvícení (Enlightenment) (2007), the author symbolizes the destructive waves that carried back to the sea not only tree trunks but also the indigenous population. The object resembles a splattered drop of golden color gripping a tree trunk in a horizontal position.
