bronze, patinated, height 28,5 cm, signed MEDEK 2014Tomáš Medek's sculptural work is characterised by an interest in interior space of the sculpture, which is built as an intricately shaped structure resembling a network of molecules or crystalline lattices. From the initial cubes, created by from common objects such as spoons or bottles, Medek began in 2000 to working on sculptures of anthropomorphic shapes inspired by the world nature. The basis for the series called Nature (bio) Insights was natural crops - peppers, pumpkins or patisons. The objects transformed into abstracted shapes are formed by spatial networks reminiscent of 3D computer technology. In 2005 Medek began working on sculptures created by computer - some of the objects are a direct 3D prints from the computer, made of plastic or plaster, others are created by hand" from wood, maramor, or bronze according to computer designs. T. Medek (*1969) studied in 1992-1998 at the Faculty of Fine Arts Arts in Brno in the sculpture studio of Prof. Vladimír Preclík. In 1997 In 1997 he graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada, in the sculpture studio of Prof. J. Greer and R. Peck. Since r. 1998 Medek has been working at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology at the Studio of Sculpture I. Michal Gabriel.
