Short item description
oil on canvas, frame, 40 × 32 cm, signed. LD Bánsághi V.Vincent Bánsaghi drew his subjects for his plein air paintings from the at the confluence of the Danube and the Iplá rivers, where he settled permanently after his studies. In his themes, he preferred neither impressionistic nor radical technique pointillism and direct daylight, but rather a spiritual stylization of color composition and the mysteriousness of light. He was one of the few Slovak pre-revolutionary artists who explicitly espoused classical impressionism. However, in reality rather he emphasized the attribute "classical", which in Bánsághi's case was synonymous with artistic austerity, stylistic neatness and "pre-secession" decorativeness. Vincent Bánsaghi, real name Steinacher, was born in 1881 in Resita, Romania and died in 1960 in Chľab. After studying in Budapest and Paris, he settled permanently and worked in Chľab, Slovakia.
