Painting is one of the many artistic positions of the versatile artist, performer, and musician Petr Nikl. He entered the art scene in the 1980s at the Konfrontací exhibitions as a member of the Stubborn group, who demonstrated their interest in spontaneous, expressive painting as a contrast to the introspective and existential work of the previous generation. Petr Nikl deviated from the prevailing aesthetics of the group with his painting expression. His smooth, carefully constructed paintings reveal inspiration from proto-Renaissance Italian paintings, whose technical precision also became Nikl's hallmark.
