During his studies at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (1982–1987), Jiří David initiated the creation of unofficial student exhibitions – Konfrontací and in 1987 he was one of the co-founders of the group Tvrdohlaví. From 1995 to 2002 he worked as the head of the Visual Communication Studio at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and from 2004 to 2020 as the head of the Intermedia Communication Studio at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. In 2015, he represented the Czech Republic in the national pavilion at the Venice Biennale with the installation Apotheosis.
