Czechoslovakia, 1960s, execution probably
Woodworker of the City of Brno, coloured umakarty, wood, height 64 cm
5 000 CZK / € 205Brussels style, applied in applied art in Czechoslovakia on
the turn of the 1950s and 1960s carries on a tradition, especially in the furniture industry
of exceptionally high quality products and design, reaching the level of the greats
European design. Unfortunately, the entire section on applied arts
and industrial design in this period is already heavily influenced by
collectivisation, which was designed to suppress any sign of authorship
and personal merit in the field. Most of the iconic objects in Czechoslovakia
unlike the international market, lost irreplaceable information
about the authors, designs and thought processes that set the rhythm
of the whole period.
