oil, cardboard, frame, 23,5 × 26,5 cm, signed PU P. Kotík, on the reverse 1930Pravoslav Kotík, a member of the artistic group called Ho Ho Ko Ko (Bare,
Holan, Kotík, Kotrba), went through an interesting, complex and in a way
unusual development. At first he was influenced by expressionism and fauvism,
In the 1920s, he came out in his mostly socially-oriented paintings
from the legacy of Cubism, whose morphology he developed and enriched in a distinctive way.
In the interwar period he became one of the leading representatives of our
avant-garde, In the final post-war period, he reached
to a distinctive abstract expression that has long been recognized by experts
but still not fully appreciated. It is in the late
paintings and drawings, it can be seen that Pravoslav Kotík did not lose heart and constantly
experimented with new expressive possibilities. He thus approached the young
generation coming of age in the late fifties and early sixties
and coped with contemporary international developments. The painting of nudes from 1930 is a beautiful example of the artist's mature work at that time, in which he had already matured
to a synthesis of all previous experiences, to simplified forms
and at the same time expressing himself in a very relaxed, light and fragile manner.
