Michal Gabriel studied sculpture at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1987. Together with Jiří David, he became a founding member of the Stubborn group in 1987. In 1995, he received the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. From 1998 to the present, he has been the head of the sculpture studio at the Brno Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology. In 2007, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology and in 2009, he was appointed Professor. Since the 1990s, he has created a number of large-format sculptures that are a permanent part of public space.
