Short item description
Tomáš Medek's sculptural work is characterized by an interest in the inner space of the sculpture, which is built as a complexly shaped structure resembling a network of molecules or crystalline lattices. Starting from the initial cubes created from common objects such as spoons or bottles, Medek began working on sculptures of anthropomorphic shapes inspired by the world of nature in 2000. The model for the series called Nature (bio) Insights was natural crops - peppers, pumpkins or patissons. Objects converted into abstracted shapes are formed by spatial networks resembling computer 3D technologies. In 2005, Medek began working on sculptures created using computers - some objects are direct 3D prints from the computer, made of plastic or plaster, others are created "by hand" from wood, marble or bronze according to computer designs. T. Medek studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno from 1992 to 1998 in the sculpture studio of Prof. Vladimír Preclík. In 1997, he completed a one-year study at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada, in the sculpture studio of Prof. J. Greer and R. Peck. Since 1998, Medek has been working at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology, in the Sculpture Studio of I. Michal Gabriel.
